COOPACTO: ways for restart

This teaching case presents the dilemma faced by the members of the Cooperativa de Artesanato de Couros de Teófilo Otoni - MG (Coopacto) in office more than a decade. With the numerous administrative problems faced, the Cooperative suffered disruption of their membership and the loss of most of its members. Thus, remaining faced with two alternatives for the group rise again: performing an internal reorganization through the inclusion of new members, or close their businesses while cooperative transforming into a productive association whose legal nature sets a minimum of two members. As a result, this event aims to facilitate the discussion on the main features of an association and a cooperative, facilitating reflection on some common questions in the act of legalizing productive groups. Data were collected through participant observation and interviews with the cooperative's assets Cooperative.
