Abstract

Dairy goat production in Brazil is configured as profitable activity, and can be implemented with little investment in smallholdings. As a result, the development has contributed to the activity constituting an alternative extremely important for Brazilian agribusiness. With that, it was aimed to address the production of goat milk in the Brazilian context. A northeastern Brazil has the largest goat herd in the country, representing more than 90% of the herd. Among the northeastern states, it is worth highlighting the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba. However, the Brazilian Northeast, although has virtually the entire national herd, is responsible for just over 26% of the production of goat's milk, and 17% of total sales. In the Southeast the production is concentrated in the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, and in the South, Rio Grande do Sul is the highlight of the production of goat milk. Despite having only 3.5% of actual Brazilian herd, Southeast Region stands out for its representation of states in agribusiness for commercial production of 21% of total production of dairy goats in the country. Finally, it can be concluded that the dairy goat represents an activity with potential for development in the Brazilian context.
