The high installation cost discourages use of low-pressure micro irrigation network. The following study was done to optimize its installation and operational costs considering the different configurations of land slop, and cost of electricity and water. An optimization code was developed in MatLab, considering the loss of total distributed and localized energy loss between the beginning of the network and the pumping device for a standard irrigation network. The decision making variables for optimization with the use of genetic algorithms consisted of the diameter of each stretch of network, predefined as: two options for drip lines, four for derivation lines, four for secondary lines and one for main line. The results show that the network cost varies between 1816.42 and 2312.13 R$.ha-1.year-1. The relative weight of fixed and variable costs of energy and water in the final cost of the irrigation system for different conditions were analyzed.Downloads
