Abstract

In order to determine the durability of agricultural machines, it must firstly understand stresses level of the components in analysis. The level of stresses can be obtained by experimental tests which demand high costs for prototypes and instrumentation, or analytically which demands timing and most of cases, calculations become unfeasible due to geometry complexity. An alternative which helps agriculture engineering for the stresses calculation is the Finite Element Method, but the use of this method for straw cutting seeder is still incipient. This work proposes finite element analysis of a four bars mechanism, similar to a real one, used in straw cutting seeder, for stresses evaluation. Von Mises stresses were extracted and analyzed from commercial software. Results demonstrated consistent when compared to analytical data, taking in consideration that statistical methods for comparing the results were not adopted. Values lower than 275 N mm-2 (yield strength of the material adopted in the simulations) were found, which showed the potentiality on the Finite Element Method application for straw cutting seeder projects.
