Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the level of methodological and physiological knowledge of teachers who teach Physical Education classes in state schools of Minas Gerais, of the students of the Physical Education course and of the Physical Education teachers who teach physical education classes in the state’s elementary schools, in southern Minas Gerais. The survey consisted of 45 teachers who were teaching physical education classes in state schools in the cities of Varginha, Três Corações and Três Pontas (MG), 35 undergraduate Physical Education students of the Centro Universitário do Sul de Minas (UNISVarginha, MG) and the University Vale do Rio Verde (UNINCOR- Três Corações, MG) and 21 physical education teachers from the cities of Varginha, Três Corações e Três Pontas. The justification of this study is based on the fact that the Government of Minas Gerais, in the years 2013 and 2014, authorized, by Resolution No. 2253 (January, 9th, 2013) of the State Department of Education of Minas Gerais, teachers to teach physical education classes in state schools of Minas Gerais. For this research, a questionnaire with 30 questions about methodological and physiological aspects of school physical education was distributed among the participants. The average of correct answers in a total of 30 questions was of 4.48 between the teachers who were teaching physical education, 16.51 between students of Physical Education and 18,95 between physical education teachers from the cities of Varginha, Três Corações e Três Pontas. Overall, the teachers who were teaching physical education got only 15% of the questions right , while the students got 55% and the Physical Education teachers from the cities of Varginha, Três Corações e Três Pontas got 63%. This proves that they have no specific knowledge to teach physical education classes at school.
