The Serviço Autônomo de Água e Esgoto (SAAE), from Viçosa (MG), in partnership with other institutions, carried out, from 2012 to 2015, a project to implement soil and water conservation practices in farmer properties in the Turvo Sujo River Basin. The objective was to identify, in the field, the practices implemented by the SAAE and the perceptions of farmers about the results obtained after the implementation of these practices. Semi-structured interviews were used with 19 farmers benefited by the project. Most respondents were aware of the importance of practices to reduce erosion and increase the volume of water in springs. Terraces (67%) and barraginhas (61%) were identified as the most efficient practices in controlling soil erosion. Planting trees and revegetating the tops of hills were considered necessary practices for soil and water conservation. It is important to include farmers at all stages of the project.
