Abstract

This study evaluated the acute adaptations on heart rate (Abernethy e Wehr), systolic blood pressure (SBP), rate-pressure product (RPP), blood lactate (LA), and and perception of physical exertion (PPE) in different body positions in in bench press exercise in young male university students. Thirteen healthy untrained volunteers (22,4 ± 1,6 years; 62,8 ± 8,3 kg), performed single set with 12-repetition maximum load (12RM). The exercises performed were bench press horizontal, bench press vertical, bench press inclined (30 degrees), and bench press declined (30 degrees). The tests to determinations of 12RM and variables measured were in order randomized. HR, SBP, RPP, and PPE were assessed immediately after each exercise. BL was measured three minutes after each exercise. Statistical evaluation of the data was measured using a 2 x 4 repeated measures analysis. Compared to baseline, variables cardiovascular were significantly (p < 0.05) higher after all exercises. No significant differences in HR, SBP, RPP, and PPE were found between the four exercises. BL in bench press horizontal was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than bench press vertical. We conclude that the different body positions in bench press exercise did not affect differently the evaluated cardiovascular variables. However, the bench press horizontal provided higher stress metabolic than bench press vertical.
