Action research related to teaching integers with didactic games

Abstract

The students' difficulties in relation to the teaching of integers trigger the concern with the teaching pedagogical action and the search for an innovative form of intervention. In this context, the research aims to investigate the potential of ludic activities in learning integers in a 7th grade elementary school class, in Santana do Araguaia-PA. This is a qualitative research, of the Action-Research type, which analyzed the intervention carried out at the Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental Irmão Pio Barroso, focusing on teaching mathematics through play. The research instruments were participant observation, notes of activities by the students and the researcher, and responses to a questionnaire. Two games were chosen, made and developed: Matiz and Sobe e Desce, which explored concepts of addition and subtraction of whole numbers. The games favored motivation/curiosity and it was verified the development of healthy socialization that the pedagogical practice provided within the classroom, allowing to exclude the memorization factor. Among the results of the Action Research, the ludic activities with games aroused interest in Mathematics, promoted competitiveness, logical reasoning and the search for strategies, stimulated integration, strengthened self-confidence, increased the learning of operations with whole numbers
